Short vehicle pursuit ends in crash near Berthoud
By Surveyor Staff
The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is looking for information regarding an accident involving a stolen vehicle and a short pursuit from authorities late Wednesday night.
A Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a Jeep Wrangler speeding on Highway 287 just north of County Road 17 in Berthoud on July 29 at approximately 11 p.m. As the deputy turned his patrol vehicle around, he observed the Jeep run the red light at Highway 287 and County Road 17. The deputy activated his patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and the Jeep accelerated instead of slowing and stopping.
The deputy tried to catch up to the Jeep as it sped southbound and turned eastbound onto West County Road 8. The Jeep lost control trying to turn and crashed into a concrete pole at the intersection of West County Road 8 and Meadowlark Drive. The deputy was still a few blocks behind the Jeep when it crashed.
When the deputy arrived at the crash scene, one adult male and one juvenile female were contacted outside the vehicle.
“It is believed three unidentified occupants of the Jeep fled the area on foot before the deputy arrived. Deputies searched the area for the individuals that fled, but were unable to locate them,” stated a Sheriff’s Office press release on the incident.
The juvenile female was treated at the scene for minor injuries and cleared by medical personnel.
The investigation revealed the 2015 Jeep Wrangler had been stolen from Longmont and the license plates on the vehicle were stolen from a separate vehicle also from Longmont. Deputies also recovered property inside the Jeep they believe was stolen from local department stores.
No arrests were made at the time and the investigation continues.
The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information regarding this incident or any crime is asked to call Larimer County Sheriff’s Office at 970-416-1985 or Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868 where you will remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward.
