Berthoud Day rolls on for 62nd year
By Surveyor staff
For over 60 years, people have enjoyed the annual Berthoud Day festivities the first weekend of June. And this year’s celebration is fixin’ to be a real hootenanny.
And according to Berthoud Area Chamber of Commerce Director Deanne Mulvihill the aspect that she likes best about Berthoud Day is that it’s an event that promotes good old fashioned family time.
“What I love the most is how families all come out together and spend the time,” said Mulvihill. “We’re all running in different directions all the time, and Berthoud Day has something for everyone; from grandparents to little kids.”
The 62nd annual Berthoud Day is scheduled for Saturday, June 4. And kicking off the day, once again, is the Boy Scouts Troop 6 Fundraiser Pancake Breakfast that begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Lions Depot. It’s an annual event that brings out the pancake lover in everyone. Breakfast costs $7 for adults and $4 for kids 12 and under.
The rest of the day is filled with events for all including the Berthoud Habitat for Humanity 5K run, the annual Berthoud Day parade, and entertainment and festivities from noon until 9 p.m. at Berthoud Town Park.
This year the chamber is once again hosting a Split the Cash raffle where one lucky winner will walk away with half the cash raised through selling raffle tickets.
“If we raise five hundred dollars, the winner will go away with two-fifty,” said Mulvihill.
Tickets can be purchased at Berthoud Day at Town Park or ahead of time at the Berthoud Chamber office located at 428 Mountain Ave, up to 3 p.m. on June 3. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Entrants don’t have to be present to win either.
New this year, the chamber is hosting the inaugural Berthoud’s Got Talent show. After holding auditions, there are several acts that will perform at Berthoud Day, but there’s still openings if others are interested, according to Mulvihill.
“Auditions were great, we’ve got a lot of great people who are going to perform,” she said. “If there are people who are interested there are a couple of spots still available.”
People interested in participating can send a YouTube link of their act to [email protected].
Selected performers will compete at Berthoud Day during the day. Then, the top three performers, who’ll be voted on by those in attendance, will then perform again toward the end of the day. Prizes will be given out to the top three with the top prize being $100 and three hours of recording studio time; second place receives $50; third place receives a Super Summit Pass to The Summit in Windsor.
One of the most popular events of the year is the annual Berthoud Day parade, and this year will be no different. Last year’s parade had 75 entries and floats, Mulvihill said, and this year’s will likely be just as popular. There’s still time to sign up if interested in participating. Mulvihill said that people can sign up for the parade until June 3 by simply signing up at the chamber office or online at berthoudcolorado.com.
“We prefer and encourage people to fill out a parade form available on the website,” Mulvihill explained.
It’s free to sign up and participate and the chamber wants people to participate, she said.
