April 30, 2000 – July 14, 2019

Matthew Lander Yannutz of Berthoud, Colo., passed away July 14, 2019, at the age of 19. He was born on April 30, 2000, in Longmont, Colo. Matthew is survived by his parents, Louise and Dave Yannutz, and two brothers, Brian Yannutz and Kevin Yannutz. He leaves so many behind: his grandparents, Jerry and Carol Weber of Parker and Ralph and Donna Yannutz of Loveland, aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, and countless friends. He graduated Berthoud High School class of 2018 with honors and was attending the CU Boulder Engineering School, majoring in the Computer Sciences Honors Program.

Matthew was an amazing young man. He had a big heart and was always sensitive to other people’s needs. Matthew successfully secured legislative help and funding from Colorado government to provide more mental health help to Berthoud High School. He was the first president of the Berthoud Youth Advisory Council to provide the “voice” from high school students to local city Berthoud government. He advocated the St. Baldrick’s Foundation activities to provide donations to childhood cancer patients.

Matthew loved the outdoors and would never give up the opportunity to go mountain biking or camping. He was an active Eagle Scout of Berthoud Troop 6 and also competed in robotics. He excelled at everything he did and received numerous awards, including the Alex Sabado Kindness Award in 2017, two Presidential Academics Awards, and the Scouting Triple Crown High Adventure Award.

Matthew was cherished by his family and loved by everyone he met. There are no words to describe the sorrow and grief felt by his family and loved ones. His promising future was cut short, but we will always rejoice in our wonderful memories and always hold a special place in our hearts for Matthew. He will be missed by a multitude of relatives and friends too numerous to list.

A memorial for Matthew will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Loveland. In honor of Matthew’s commitment to various causes, including the Berthoud Youth Advisory Council, Mental Health Awareness, and Childhood Cancer Research, the family suggests sending memorial contributions to the Matthew Yannutz Memorial Fund in care of Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 North Lincoln Ave, Loveland CO 80537.
