At the meeting Tuesday evening the Berthoud Board of Trustees, in a series of unanimous votes, ratified the 2019 budget as proposed by town staff.

By state statute, the sequence of four resolutions and one ordinance needed to be addressed and approved in the order spelled out on the agenda for the meeting.

The first three budget-related items were resolutions which covered the expenditure of funds in excess of the 2018 budget, followed by a resolution to appropriate money to the various funds for the 2019 budget year, which was followed by a resolution adopting the budget for the 2019 calendar year.

Next came the lone ordinance in the sequence. The ordinance was for the purpose of levying the taxes for 2019 to defray the costs of running the town. Finally, there was a resolution to adopt the 2019 fee schedule.

Each item was addressed, in turn, by the trustees and each received a unanimous vote by the board.

The trustees also considered an ordinance to amend Berthoud’s Municipal Code to conform to the statutory penalty (the maximum fines and penalties) standards as set forth in state statute for violations of the Berthoud Municipal Code. This was the second reading of the item, and the board unanimously approved the measure without further comment.

In other action, during the evening the trustees interviewed three individuals who are current members of the Tree Advisory Committee and wished to be considered to retain their seats on the committee. The three are Anthony Frederick, Allen Owen, and Grant Steffen. A fourth individual had applied to be considered for one of the three seats available, however, the individual was not at the meeting. The trustees carried out interviews for the three individuals present. A motion appointing Frederik, Owen, and Steffen to the Tree Advisory Committee for three-year terms was made, seconded and approved unanimously

The trustees also filled a seat on the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee by appointing Cheryl Szyolo to a three-year term on the committee.
