As it often does this time of year, the spring weather wreaked havoc on the Berthoud High School (BHS) spring sports teams’ schedules in the last week.
The Windsor Track and Field Invitationa,l originally scheduled for Saturday, March 19, was cancelled and, at this time, does appear it will be rescheduled. As of this writing, the Spartans next track-and-field meet will be the Berthoud Invitational at Max Marr Field at BHS on Saturday, March 26, with events beginning at 9 a.m. It will be the first of two meets hosted in Berthoud; the second being the annual Spartans Classic on April 14, one of the premier meets of the spring.
The Lady Spartans soccer match with Mountain View High School, also originally scheduled for March 19, was postponed and will be made up on Friday, April 1, with the varsity match set for 4 p.m. Berthoud will host Tri-Valley Conference rival, Skyline, on Wednesday, March 30.

Lady Spartans fall to Holy Family, 6-1
Berthoud’s very young and inexperienced girls tennis team continues to work their way through the learning curves of the game. Said Head Coach Leigh Vitasek, “With youth comes inexperience; we just need to play more, just play more matches and we will get stronger as the season goes on.”
Playing in Broomfield against Holy Family, the Lady Spartans came up on the losing end in all but one match of the day, with only senior Emily Marty winning her match. The Lady Spartans one-singles player remained undefeated on the 2016 season, winning her match over Holy Family’s Victoria Montoya 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (8-6).
Other scores from the March 21 match:
Two Singles: Julia Giltner (Holy Family) defeats Skye Kearney: 6-0, 6-1; Three Singles: Ellyson Beyer (HF) def. Teagan Ives (BHS): 6-1, 6-0; One Doubles: Julia Giltner and Leah Schwartz (HF) def. Leah Marty and Carly Thomas (BHS): 6-1, 6-1; Two Doubles: Ciara Donovan and Sophie Moskow (HF) def. Lilli Homeier and Jenna Whitmore (BHS): 6-1, 6-0; Three Doubles: An Tran and Brianna Bartlett (HF) def.
