Power outage affecting local residents

November 08, 2015 | Local News

Nearly 3,000 Berthoud and Longmont residents remain without power Sunday morning as crews continue to fix a faulty transmission line to a nearby substation.

According to Gabriel Romero, an Xcel Energy spokesperson, the outage occurred Saturday night just after 10 p.m. when the Xcel substation lost power from an incoming transmission line. Romero said crews continue to work on the issue but are uncertain as to when power would be restored because they have yet to determine the cause.

According to Xcel’s online outage report, 2,911 customers remain without power.

Poudre Valley REA customers in Berthoud were also affected by the outage last night, however, according to Amy Blunck, PVREA spokeswoman, those customers were up and running again about 2 a.m. as the company was able to shift those customers to another substation for power.

Xcel customers remain without power because the substation affected is the only incoming power source for the rural area, Romero said.

Blunck said that any PVREA customers that experience outages today should notify PVREA.

This story will be updates as more information becomes available.
