Ramon DeGroat Jr.

January 16, 1959 – May 12, 2018

Ramon (Sonny) Russell DeGroat Jr.

Ramon (Sonny) Russell DeGroat Jr., went to rest on May 12, 2018. He was with the love of his life and son in Phoenix, Ariz. Sonny is resting peacefully and pain free now. He was battling cancer when his heart spared him the continued battle. While his family has heavy hearts from this tragic loss, we are at peace knowing he is in a better place now.
Sonny was born on Jan. 16, 1959, to his parents Ramon Sr. and Dorothy DeGroat. He grew up in Berthoud, Colo. Sonny was the third of four children born. Sonny married Laura Jean Miller on Nov. 14, 1981. They were married for 36 years and have three children; Jessy Carney, Rusty and Amber DeGroat (Richardson).
Sonny was a simple man who lived a happy and full life. He had many joys and hobbies over the years, but his one and only true passion was his family. He was a kind and loving soul who would give you the shirt off of his back. He never met a stranger and touched every person in a special way.
Sonny loved dirt and spent many years as a heavy-equipment operator and then as an owner-operator with Diamond Trucking. He was an avid supporter and racer with the Dwarf Cars of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his father Ramon Russell DeGroat Sr., and his little brother Roger William DeGroat. He is survived by his wife Laura Jean DeGroat; sons, Jessy Carney (Amanda), and Rusty Ray DeGroat; daughter, Amber Diann Richardson (Jeffrey); and his five grandchildren, Emily and Evan Richardson, Michael, Abigail and William Carney; his mother, Dorothy E. DeGroat; aunt, Norma Warren; brother, Danny DeGroat; sister, Theresa Meining; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will take place on June 3, 2018, at 1 p.m. in Wellington, Colo. If you would like information to attend please contact Amber Richardson at [email protected]. He will then be laid to rest in Berthoud cemetery in private with family. Condolences for the family may be left at www.thompsonfuneralchapel.com.
