Lawrence Elmos Beymer Jr.

Lawrence Elmos Beymer Jr. (Laurie), born June 9 1936, of Berthoud, Colo., passed away on Aug. 17, 2018 at the age of 82 while in residence at the North Shore Health and Rehabilitation Facility in Loveland, Colo. Born in Little Falls, Minn., son of Ada Cecelia Beymer (Kjeldergaard) and Lawrence Elmos Beymer Sr., Laurie lived a farm life until, due to his health, his family moved to California. He met his future wife, Patricia Anne Beymer, while attending Canoga Park High School, in Canoga Park, Calif. They were married Dec. 3, 1955, and together raised three beautiful children.

An avid photographer throughout his life, Laurie worked for Knox Photo Company in Reseda, Calif. He attended California State University Northridge, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, during which he also began his career with the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, Calif., as a program director for the West Valley YMCA in Reseda. He continued with the “Y” as program director at Torrance YMCA, executive director of North Valley YMCA, executive director of Fresno YMCA and finally, executive director of the Clackamas YMCA in Portland, Ore.

Laurie loved the outdoors and, in addition to running YMCA camps in various locations throughout California and Oregon, he and his family traveled around California and the Pacific Northwest, camping, and backpacking, savoring all of the seasons, at the beach and in the desert, but mostly in the mountains of the Sierra, where his heart lies. He and his YMCA buddies also enjoyed an annual fishing get together off of the Trinity River. After retiring, he and Patricia moved to Berthoud, Colo. Together, with their beagle Harley and cat CJ, they would often stay at the YMCA of the Rockies and venture into Rocky Mountain National Park.

Laurie is survived by his wife, Patricia Anne Beymer; daughter Beth Anne Beymer and her wife, Sandra North; son Dale Beymer and his wife Anna Beymer; son Keith Beymer and his wife Robin Beymer, their daughters Heather and Amber Beymer; and Laurie’s sisters, June Langhoff and Diane Glamuzina.

Laurie’s family would like to thank the entire staff of North Shore Health and Rehabilitation Facility for their excellent care and assistance. No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park.
