November 5, 1933 – October 8, 2018

Charles Walter Helsel, 84, of Berthoud, passed away on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at his home.

Charles was born Nov. 5, 1933, in Kirk, Colo., to C.K. and Emmelyn (Miller) Helsel. He was raised and educated in Colorado. 

Charles married Darlene Hicks on June 4, 1954, in Loveland. Charles was an ordained minister for the Church of the Nazerene from 1956 – 1991. This calling provided opportunities to serve in many beautiful cities in Colorado and other states; including Oklahoma, California, Oregon and Wyoming. After his retirement from the ministry he worked for Rouselle Vault Company before being employed with the Thompson School District in 1993.

Charles was an active member and elder of the Loveland Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, daughters; Brenda (Kim) Wildrick of Fort Morgan, Bonnie Dayton of Texas and Diane (Bill) Range, Arnette, Okla., sister; Laurel (Bob) Hubbard of Matoon Ill., sister-in-law; Janice Helsel, grandchildren; Sharon Causey, Shiloh Carlsen, Rachael Brown, Spenser Brown, Jesse Range, Bridget Scribner, and great-granddaughter; Athahiah Grace Scribner.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bob Helsel.

A celebration of life for Charles Helsel will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at Life Springs Church in Loveland, with Pastor Brian Smith of the First Nazarene Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Garden.
