A head-on collision along U.S. Highway 287 near mile marker 322 south of Berthoud on Sunday, Sept. 2 resulted in the death of a Fort Collins woman, and two others being seriously injured.

Authorities have reason to suspect the driver of the Nissan Pathfinder involved in the crash, 38-year-old Jonathan Bullard of Longmont was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs when his southbound vehicle crossed over into the northbound lane hitting a Toyota Highlander head-on.

According to the Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gary Cutler, just minutes before the accident occurred a reporting party called the police to report the vehicle driven by Bullard was erratically weaving across lanes heading southbound on U.S. Highway 287.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, 54-year-old Sumei Han died at the scene, her husband who was a passenger in the vehicle, 52-year-old Johny Han was transported to Medical Center of the Rockies (MCR) with serious injuries but has since been released. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Bullard was also transported to MCR with serious injuries and remains in critical condition as of Wednesday morning.

U.S. Highway 287 was closed in both directions for several hours on Sunday afternoon while the scene was being cleared.

The Colorado State Patrol will send charges against Bullard to the District Attorney’s Office who will now take over the case.
