Elizabeth “Betty” McMichael: Feb. 15, 1921 ~ Oct. 26, 2015
Elizabeth “Betty” McMichael, 94, of Longmont, Colo., passed away Oct. 26, 2015, at The Bridge Assisted Living. Betty was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Stoughton, Wis., to Selmer C. and Lulu V. (Osmundson) Larson.
Betty grew up the child of a college professor and lived in Wisconsin, North Dakota, Illinois, Minnesota, New York and Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College High School in 1938, Iowa State Teachers College in 1941, and received her Master of Education from the University of Colorado in 1965.
Betty married Willis McMichael on July 28, 1940, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and they moved to Boulder, Colo., in 1951 and Berthoud, Colo., in 1994. She used her college education in many areas, combining housewife and mother with tutoring, being an insurance agent, owner and manager of Boulder’s Lighthouse Bookstore, published writer, and finally retired from the University of Colorado as a research analyst in 1981.
Betty was a longtime member of Calvary Bible Evangelical Free Church in Boulder and most recently affiliated with Grace Evangelical Free Church in Longmont. She belonged to various church and literary organizations.
Her passion for writing proved to be not only profitable, but a source of fun in writing family history, a cookbook with her granddaughter, and teaching others to write their own stories. Her publications ranged from the technical to the whimsical.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willis, grandson Scott Collins, and brother Robert E. Larson.
