Heavy medal Holst wins Chicago Style

Berthoud’s Bailie Holst competed in the 14th Annual Illinois Gymnastics Institute (IGI) Chicago Style Gymnastics Meet, held Feb. 10-12 at the Navy Pier in Chicago, and wrapped up her trip to the windy city by bringing home three gold medals, a bronze and a fourthplace honor.

A sophomore at Berthoud High School, Holst traveled there with her teammates from Premier Gymnastics of the Rockies (PGR) to compete in what is known as the largest women’s gymnastics invitational meet in the world, bringing home top honors in the Level 10 competition.

Recreation center plans move forward

The Berthoud Board of Trustees held a split session on Tuesday evening with a study session preceded by a special meeting. The meeting began at 6 p.m. due to what was considered to be a heavier than usual agenda.

Calendar quandaries

The Thompson School District’s efforts to finalize a 2012/2013 calendar will finally go before a vote this week, and community members showed up at last week’s meeting to voice their opinions and concerns. Although the special meeting is expected to take place shortly after the story goes to press, the pursuit of this decision is worth following.

After compiling feedback on the district website, the designated staff submitted a calendar for the board to consider — and they responded with disappointment. Their wishes, which echoed the community’s, were more choices with a later start date and the potential elimination of early release Wednesdays.
