The following response is from Kevin Pischke:

 1. Why are you running for town trustee/mayor? Because voting is not enough. As a Colorado native, I understand and love what is special about the state and, in particular, Berthoud. I feel so strongly   about this that I want to do more than vote. I want to help lead – to contribute my leadership and team-building experience to benefit our community.

2. What do you believe the role of a trustee should be? To be the voice of the town’s citizens and to ask the hard questions, casting my vote for what is best for the town.

3. What do you believe are the three most important issues facing Berthoud?

a.) Growth and need to address essential services

b.) Creating a destination town and insuring Main Street is the main focus

c.)  Parks and recreation, building on the current parks and creating a master plan

4. What is your vision for downtown Berthoud? To be a destination. Where people come to eat, drink, shop and spend time with friends and family.

5. How can the town improve recreational opportunities? We can start by creating a master plan for all parks and trails. We need to address what we have currently and what can be done to improve the parks and pool and figure out what projects we can partner with the county and the state. We also need to discuss plans for how much bigger projects would cost and how to pay for them.

The following response is from Heidi Short

1.       Why are you running for town trustee/mayor?

After being on the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee for a number of years and understanding more of how the town works and what we need in this community, I thought now was a good time to be part of the bigger picture for our town.

2.       What do you believe the role of a trustee should be?

I believe our role is to help the town administrator and staff understand the needs of our community and offer solutions to the issues that impact our town. The priorities of our citizens should be addressed in our goal to benefit our town.

3.       What do you believe are the three most important issues facing Berthoud?

a.       Getting more businesses to move into our town to help with revenue and infrastructure issues.

b.      Promoting safety in the downtown area, with the promotion of the crossing-guard program and other safety issues with regard to virtual reality games that have impacted the safety of our town. I have helped the sheriff’s department and our town on both of these issues in the last few months.

c.       Taking advantage of the events in and around town to help promote the community as a great place to live and work.

4.       What is your vision for downtown Berthoud?

As a member of the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee I want to help maintain the historic look and feel in the heart of our town, even as we get new businesses and homes around our town. This is what makes us a beautiful place to live and promotes people walking and enjoying our wonderful old downtown. We shouldn’t ignore one of the many things that draw people to our town.

5.       How can the town improve recreational opportunities?

I believe we need to add a number of options for young and old. More parks, trails, rec center and other amenities.
